Redshred Awarded U.S. Army Phase II Contract to Develop PRELUDE, a Platform for Trustworthy AI Document Workflows
PRELUDE replaces inconsistent, ad-hoc AI prompting with measurable, reusable workflows to help the Army unlock and preserve critical information in legacy documents
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
BALTIMORE, MD — October 6, 2026 — Redshred, a pioneer in AI-powered document intelligence, has been awarded a Phase II contract from the U.S. Army to develop PRELUDE (Prompt Engineering for Large-scale Understanding and Document Extraction).
Large language models offer new ways to unlock information buried in technical documentation, but ad-hoc prompting often produces inconsistent results, offers little visibility into accuracy, and leaves valuable analytical work trapped with the individuals who did it. PRELUDE addresses these challenges by combining Redshred's layered metadata framework with advanced prompt testing and optimization, multi-task LLM evaluation, and automated agentic workflow generation. The result is a structured, transparent, and cost-effective platform for building AI document workflows that the Army can measure, trust, and reuse.
"The Army has decades of critical knowledge locked inside documents, and AI can finally help surface it, but only if commanders can trust the output," said Jim Kukla, Co-founder and CTO of Redshred. "PRELUDE brings engineering discipline to prompting. Every workflow is tested against ground truth, measured for accuracy, and captured so it can be reused long after the person who built it has moved on."
"Talk to Your Filing Cabinet"
At the center of PRELUDE is a conversational interface that lets users explore entire document collections in natural language, essentially the ability to "talk to your filing cabinet." As users work, PRELUDE automatically captures their analytical approaches and domain expertise into reusable agent personas and automated workflows, preserving institutional knowledge that would otherwise be lost during unit and personnel rotations.
PRELUDE integrates ground truth annotation directly into live prompt development and supports evaluation-driven prompting in real time, giving users clear visibility into how their prompts perform and how that performance evolves as the prompt changes, the model upgrades, or new agentic techniques emerge. This enables Army teams to build custom AI workflows for virtually any document type, from intelligence summaries to maintenance logs to technical data analysis, with measurable accuracy metrics at every step.
During Phase II, Redshred will expand PRELUDE's support for additional agentic techniques, enhance conversational document exploration, and introduce automatic identification and capture of information gaps.
Closing the Technical Data Gap in Sustainment
PRELUDE also targets a persistent challenge in Army sustainment. Technical data packages (TDPs) are typically needed roughly seven years after equipment is purchased, when systems transfer to a Lifecycle Management Center. By then, crucial technical data is often missing or scattered across disparate repositories, and program offices may not have recognized data access needs at the time of acquisition.
PRELUDE will allow sustainment teams to query all available information about a weapon system, assess whether that data is sufficient, identify substantial gaps, and even generate a list of the technical data the Army needs to request. Extraction-based prompts will also make it simple to identify parts and part numbers across large document sets.
"Data sufficiency problems usually surface years after a purchase decision, when they are hardest and most expensive to fix," said Jeehye Yun, CEO and Founder of Redshred. "PRELUDE gives the Army a way to see what it has, what it's missing, and what to ask for, so sustainment teams can focus their time on mission-critical decisions instead of document hunting."
Broad Commercial Potential
Beyond defense, PRELUDE's capabilities in prompt engineering, conversational document exploration, tribal knowledge capture, and information gap identification apply to any industry that depends on complex technical data packages, including aerospace, MRO, manufacturing, and heavy industry.
The PRELUDE award builds on Redshred's track record delivering AI-enabled document intelligence across the Department of Defense, including work under DARPA's Perceptually-enabled Task Guidance (PTG) program.
