Redshred awarded DARPA Embedded Entrepreneur Initiative (EEI) for AI-Powered Maintenance Assistant Technology

June 10, 2025

[BALTIMORE, MD] - JUNE 9,2025- Redshred, a leading provider of AI-powered document intelligence solutions, has been selected for DARPA's prestigious Embedded Entrepreneur Initiative (EEI) through the agency's Commercial Strategy Office. EEI pairs top technical talent from DARPA programs with industry leaders to accelerate the transition of breakthrough technologies to market.

This program will accelerate the commercialization of Redshred's Cognitive Observant Assistant for Coaching and Helping (COACH) technology, an AI-driven system that revolutionizes maintenance procedures through knowledge transfer, immersive guidance and real-time assistance.

"This DARPA EEI program gives our team the opportunity to scale our AI solutions that truly enhance human capabilities, addressing critical needs in both the defense and commercial sectors, said Jim Kukla, CTO of Redshred. "Our COACH technology represents a fundamental shift in how maintenance procedures are performed, learned, and documented across industries."

Building on DARPA's Perceptually Enabled Task Guidance Program

Redshred's COACH technology emerged from the company's participation in DARPA's Perceptually Enabled Task Guidance (PTG) program.

"The PTG program aims to develop artificial intelligence technologies to help users perform complex physical tasks while making them more versatile by expanding their skill set and more proficient by reducing their errors,” stated Matt Marge, DARPA program manager. “PTG seeks to develop methods, techniques, and technology for artificial intelligence assistance that provide just-in-time visual and audio feedback to help with task execution. The goal is to provide users with wearable sensors that allow the assistant to see and hear what they see.”

Revolutionary Maintenance Support System

COACH provides comprehensive support for maintenance personnel at all skill levels—from novices learning new procedures to experts requiring automated documentation.

This integrated approach allows users to quickly learn new tasks, ask questions during procedures, interact with 3D representations of equipment, document maintenance actions in real-time without interrupting workflow, and visually track and share progress with team members.

Bridging Military and Commercial Applications

In military settings, COACH offers solutions for complex maintenance operations where equipment complexity and high turnover of maintenance personnel create significant training challenges.

For commercial applications, the technology provides value for industries dealing with complex machinery maintenance, including aerospace, automotive manufacturing, energy infrastructure, and healthcare equipment.
